Absctract Purpose: To investigate the effects of degree of myopia and pupil dilation on HOA in Hong Kong Chinese.
Method: Thirty-eight myopic Hong Kong Chinese aged between 18 and 38 with good ocular health were recruited and divided into three myopia groups according to their noncycloplegic spherical-equivalent (SE) refractive errors. Ocular aberrations and pupil offsets were obtained by using the NIDEK OPD-Scan III both before and after mydriasis. Analysis was done over 4mm pupil diameters.
Results: Pupil dilation had notable effects on HOA RMS and horizontal pupil shift in all of the myopia groups and in the moderate myopes respectively. The change of HOA RMS was not due to the pupil decentration. Degree of myopia significantly affected the corneal and internal horizontal coma, particularly in the highly myopic eyes.
Conclusion: This findings implied the significance of considering pupil offsets and degree of myopia in wavefront optimized refractive surgeries.
